What is a "Cabochon"?
A cabochon (pronounced
ka'-ba-shän)is a gem, bead, or stone with a convex surface, highly polished but not faceted.  Our imaged cabochons are fine porcelain, carefully inspected and hand-picked by us for a completely blemish-free surface.

How are the images applied to the porcelain?
We employ a dye sublimation heat transfer process, using an archival inkset.

Can the cabochons/pendants get wet?
Yes, they can.  We actually immerse them in water to cool them after the image is applied.  Porcelain is quite impervious to water.

Does the jewelry require any special care?
Care for your Legacy Image jewelry as you would any fine jewelry.  Avoid submersing the imaged pendant/ cabochons into a chemical cleaning agent.  We recommend the pendant/cabochon be cleaned with a damp cloth.  Polishing sterling silver fittings around a cabochon can be done with a silver polishing cloth.

What do the Sample Display Sets include?
We have three pre-designed Display Sets available for your convenience.  The first is the Mini Display, showcasing a sterling silver necklace and one of each cabochon / pendant choice in a tabletop jeweler's case.  Next is the Top Sellers set, containing a version of our six most popular designs.  And finally, the Full Line includes all of the current Open Edition releases.  Additionally you can order your display pieces individually, choosing from both the Open Edition and Limited Edition releases to build a display that best suits your needs and interests.

Do you make the Sample Display Sets from my images or stock images?
If you are a photography or art studio, we make the display pieces from your images so they reflect your personal works.  If you are a gallery, jeweler, or other retailer, we make the displays from stock images to best demonstrate versatile imaging ideas.

Am I required to purchase a Sample Display Set to be a dealer?
There's an old adage in retail that "you can't sell from empty shelves", so while it's not required, it's strongly recommended that dealers opt for at least the minimal display.

What is the Dealer Discount?
Allowing for keystone retail markup, your dealer discount is 50% of our suggested retail.

How are your jewelry prices determined?
Prices are subject to fluctuations in the precious metals market.  Prices for sterling silver, vermeil, gold, gold-filled, and platinum are based on gram weight.  Our price for precious metals will be determined by the second London Market close of the preceding Friday.

The most current prices for all pieces are available in the dealer section of our website, updated each week after the Friday London Market second fixing. Once the prices are updated (no later than Monday 10:00 a.m. EST) they'll be fixed for that week.  Quotes for custom pieces will be estimated according to current market price, and will be fixed at the time of order.

It sounds more complicated than it really is.  Simply log in to the website each week for the most current pricing - prices can go up or down depending on the market prices of gold and silver.

How can I know of the purity of the silver or gold used in jewelry?
In the US, jewelry makers are not permitted to sell
precious metal as such without a stamped purity marking.  On our pieces, the purity stamp will be located either on the clasp or a small tag attached to the clasp, or on the pendant bail.

Common purity stampings used are:
925 or SS = Sterling silver
585 or 14kt = 14kt gold
750 or 18kt = 18kt gold
999 or 24kt = 24kt gold
GF = gold filled
or more specifically 14/20GF = 14kt gold filled, 12/20GF = 12kt gold filled, 10/20GF= 10kt gold filled

How do gold-filled, rolled gold, and gold plated differ?
Gold-filled and rolled gold are essentially the same thing.  Gold-filled is the more popularly used description in the US, with the term  "rolled gold" coming from the process of rolling out the metal after the gold layer is applied.  In all cases, it refers to a layer of gold fused to a base metal.  Gold-filled or rolled gold is more heavily coated than gold plated (also called gold electroplated), and therefore lasts longer before the gold wears through to the base metal.

What is "Vermeil"?
Vermeil (pronounced ver-MAY) is sterling silver heavily coated with gold, typically 22kt.  It gives the appearance of fine gold at a lesser cost.  The gold coating is thicker than other gold-fill and since the base metal is sterling silver, it's entirely precious metal.

Do you use any base metals containing lead?
Our line contains only one type of piece that uses a base metal option other than the sterling silver of Vermeil, and that's our brooch designs.  The base metals used in those are brass (under gold) or pewter (under silver).

Pewter is a term for a metal that consists of 90% tin and 10% "something else" - that "something else" can be lead but more often it's antimony, zinc, or copper.  We opt to use pewter that contains no lead, but occasionally we incorporate antique findings into custom designs where the pewter composition is unknown.

Lead contained in pewter is not considered to be of a hazardous level and requires no expressed warning about the content.  We offer this information voluntarily as a courtesy, to allow you, as the dealer, and your customer to make an informed decision about allowing antique pewter of unknown origin to be used in your design.  Under ordinary circumstances the exposure to the small amount of lead content in the pewter poses no specific known health hazard since it is coated in silver and there is no direct contact with it.  But lead, in general, is known to cause health issues, particularly in children, and care should be taken to not allow a small child to put any piece of jewelry made with pewter containing lead into their mouth.

Can additional charms be added to a piece at a later time?
Absolutely - we encourage it!  As families grow or significant life events occur, new charms can be added to any piece to celebrate the occasion.  We can send the charm to you to be added by any local jeweler, or the piece can be returned to us to add the new charm.

Will you sell charms for a bracelet purchased elsewhere?
Yes, we offer charms set in either sterling silver, 14k gold, or gold-filled.  The charm comes with a split ring for easy attachment to the existing piece of jewelry.
